This was before he moved to Aubergine with a launch team under Chef Gordon Ramsay. After some time, he opened the Belgravia restaurant Zafferano where he worked as head chef for 15 years.
Like many of the world’s top chefs, Andy Needham always dreamt of having his own place where he could freely serve Italian food that reflects his personal appeal and style to Italophile foodies. However, he couldn’t fulfill his dream while working for someone else. So, he opened his own restaurant.
L’Amorosa is located on the site which once belonged to the popular all-day café Lola & Simon. But, the cafe has been completely remodeled. Little and beautiful Osborne pictures and wallpapers that once hung in Zafferano can be found in the restaurant’s interior. Menu items are also reasonably priced. Starters range from £7 to £10, mains range between £9 and £20 while prices for desserts fall between £6 and £8.
Cooking seasonally is still the guiding force of Andy Needham Chef’s cooking. Andy finds it pleasing and joyful. So, during winters, Andy uses root vegetables (lots of them) and serves slow-cooked cuisines like cuttlefish with Taggiasca olives and potatoes.
Andy Needham chef buys locally from butchers Macken Brothers and John Stenton and is a fan of greengrocer Natoora. He believes in shopping locally and prefers local farmer markets.
Special Sunday Roasts
Andy Needham chef and his wife Lynn are locals and have lived in the area for several years. For a Michelin-calibre restaurant, it’s unusual of L’Amorosa offers Sunday roasts. However, these are not just regular roast dinners. L’Amorosa – A Dream Come True for Andy Needham Chef
According to Andy’s wife, she and Andy are delighted with the way everything has worked out. Andy Needham loves that no one day is the same at his own restaurant. The pressures and challenges have increased for Andy since his restaurant opened, but they’re more varied now. Andy explains that it’s a good kind of pressure and anyone who likes the industry never gets tired of it.
Andy Needham’s dedication to serving simple Italian dishes made with fine ingredients is what attracts London’s top foodies to L’Amorosa. Andy’s restaurant is also recognised with a “Michelin Bib Gourmand” – the honour bestowed by the Michelin guide to the best dining experiences.
Andy only has a small group of people with him, so everything he offers is truly his. From source to preparation, cooking and even plating up – it all feels like it carries his signature touch. Since it’s such a small restaurant, Andy comes out of the kitchen every now and then to chat with his guests. Andy says that it is a lot more than just the kitchen now. He’s creating menus, buying products and finding different types of career fulfillment. He never stops learning.
Andy Needham loves the local community. He says that it isn’t just that he works in the neighbourhood; it feels like it is their restaurant too. Running a restaurant of your own isn’t easy, but Andy feels like it is the right place and he can feel a real connection with this place.
